Month in Review April 2002

Switch to monthly updates!

We haven't forgotten about our website...we've just had to change our update frequency!  April was a crazy month...as you'll read about in the following update.  With the (supposed) return of good weather (we had 3 inches of snow last night!)...I expect that monthly updates are all we can handle.

Hellos and Good-byes...

On Wednesday, March 27th...we welcomed a new member to our extended family.  Annabelle has a new cousin...thanks to my sister Elizabeth and her hubby Dan.  Jacob Daniel Hahn was born that evening...bringing much excitement to our family and to his own 2 older brothers.   Here is a picture of Jacob and his mommy on Easter Sunday.

Sadly...the following day on Thursday, March 28...my mother's husband...Jim Lencke passed away suddenly.  So we made an unexpected trip to Indiana that (Easter) weekend to attend the funeral.  I stayed the entire next week with Annabelle and Nathaniel while Chris came back to Minnesota to work.

Thankfully...we had just gotten a new minivan the weekend before (thanks to Chris' parents!) that made the drive to Indiana bearable!

Easter

It was under unfortunate circumstances...but it was nice to have our entire family gathered at church on Easter Sunday.  My grandparents flew in from Arizona; my Uncle James, wife Phebe and baby Zeke flew in from New Mexico; and my sister was there with her family...including Jacob who was only a few days old.

We attended church in the morning with the aforementioned crowd at Battle Ground United Methodist....the church I grew up in.  Of course the Easter Bunny found Annabelle at Grandad's house...she had plenty of treats!  We even managed an Easter Egg hunt in the afternoon.

Catching up...

After being gone unexpectedly for over a week....it took me a good week or two just to get caught up on things.  Laundry, mail, bills...not to mention taxes that were due in a week!  So the second 2 weeks of April were a blur after spending the first week in Indiana.

What happened to Spring?

We had unbelievable temperatures the week of April 15.  Can you believe it topped out at over 90 degrees one day!  We went from furnaces to air conditioners in 24 hours!  We had a week of very warm weather...it was a little gift from God as I explained to Annabelle.  I told her cold weather would return...and I was correct!  We've had plenty of snow this past week to prove it!

Happy Birthday Daddy!

Chris celebrated his 33rd birthday on April 23rd.  It was a quiet affair.  I made Chinese stir-fry from dinner (one of his favorites) and we had our traditional strawberry shortcake for dessert.

Annabelle the Artist

Annabelle has been a trooper this month...putting up with an unexpected trip away from home on Easter...and a mom who was half-out of her mind trying to catch up when we returned home.  She has turned to art as her outlet!  She has really been in to drawing this month...and has amazed us with her creations.  Her faces now have arms, legs and bodies to go with them.  She wrote her first book...which is in my unbiased opinion a masterpiece! (she dictated the words to me as I wrote them next to the pictures she created).  She has also become very independent...which is actually a good thing.  She has started doing many things on her own...and is quite proud of it!

Nathaniel the fist chewer!

Well...he found his hands!  Nathaniel loves to gnaw on his little fists.  He is growing so fast.  At his 8 week check up he was up to almost 13 pounds and 24 inches long (90th percentile for height!).  No wonder he is outgrowing everything so fast.  We had our first smiles in early April...although like his sister when she was a baby...he is pretty stingy with them.

More Pictures...

Please visit the Gallery for more April pictures!  We take so many...it is hard to whittle it down to a few to share!

Next Month

  • End of preschool for summer break (sadly!)

  • New windows and siding go on our house!
