Split Rock August 2009

Our second camping trip of the summer...to Split Rock Lighthouse State Park.  Grandma Rudy joined us for the first part, while Chris stayed at home.  It was some of the worst camping weather I've ever endured...cold, wet and rain daily.  Grandma Rudy was very brave!  When Chris joined us for the last 6 days - we had nothing but gorgeous weather!

Digging potatoes in the garden before we left.

Grandma Rudy was here for the harvest!

A chilly dinner...the fire helped!

The Camping Trip PART 2!  We had dropped Grandma Rudy at the airport and headed back north with Chris.  Here we are at Gooseberry Falls.

Hiking the Split Rock Look of the Superior Hiking Trail.  The kids found tadpoles here!

The "Split Rock" !  This is the landmark behind the name of our favorite state park.  This is the first time we've seen it.  It is along the Split Rock River Loop of the Superior Hiking Trail.

On Ellingston Island, lighthouse in the background.

Lighthouse from Ellingston.

The lighthouse appears as a tiny pink dot near the horizon from this vista.

It was so hot this day....the 40 degree water felt refreshing!
